Angela Townsend

“We believe that sharing resources, research and good practice are key to taking steps towards better gender balance in the sciences. Having access to GenPORT is an excellent means of extending the network of information.”

Angela Townsend is the diversity coordinator at the Institute of Physics. As part of her role she champions and raises awareness of diversity projects carried out at the IOP. She manages the responses, applications and visit arrangements for Project Juno and collects and shares information with staff at the Institute and with those organisations and contacts looking to find out about current ideas and research related to diversity both in general and specifically to physics. She has grown and developed the diversity Twitter account @IOPDiversity and is responsible for compiling the diversity newsletters and communications. Most recently she has been coordinating the LGBT+Network for Physicists and Astronomers.

Before joining the Institute Angela was responsible for managing, organising and running a series of university residential summer schools across the UK, France and Finland specifically for females studying science and mathematics A levels and wanting to find out more about studying engineering.
