The Science behind Unconscious Bias

DESCRIPTION

BSMS staff, students and others from the University of Sussex and the University of Brighton are invited to attend a talk on Monday 27 November titled 'Diversity in Medicine Talk Series presents: The Science behind Unconscious Bias'.

The talk will take place at 12pm in the Chowen Lecture Theatre, Medical Teaching Building.

Speakers will include:

  • Dr Sarah Garfinkel, who will present her research on racial bias and the heartbeat.

  • Malcolm Reed or Tom Ormerod (Head of School of Psychology) on Unconscious bias in treatment decisions in breast cancer patients.

  • Dr Pamela Kea, Senior Lecturer in Anthropology, School of Global Studies on race and migrants/asylum seekers.

  • Dr Arianne Shahvisi who will discuss unconscious bias from a philosophy/ethics perspective.

Refreshments will be provided in the foyer afterwards.
