Aspasia provides grants to help more female scientists progress to associate and full professorships. Purpose Women are underrepresented at higher levels on the career ladder. This is certainly true for higher education and research in the Netherlands. Aspasia ensures that more female assistant professors progress to the level of associate or full professor. Aspasia was set up by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science, the Association of Universities in the Netherlands and NWO. The grant is intended to encourage the promotion of female Vidi grant candidates to an associate professorship and female Vici grant candidates to a full professorship. Who can apply Aspasia is linked to the Vidi and Vici competitions of the NWO Talent Scheme. Eligible candidates: female applicants who have received a Vidi or Vici grant; female applicants who were not granted a Vidi or Vici, but were assessed as very good or excellent after the interview selection: university executive boards who promote these candidates to an associate or full professorship within a year of the Vidi or Vici being granted will be eligible for a grant under certain conditions. What to apply for For applicants who received funding in the Vidi and Vici competition the grant is €100,000. For other applicants the grant is €200,000. Therefore applicants who did not receive funding from the Talent Scheme receive a higher Aspasia grant. When to apply After the Vidi and Vici grant decisions, NWO will contact those candidates eligible for an Aspasia grant. Candidates who are an associate or full professor will not be approached. If the candidate agrees, NWO will recommend promotion to her University Executive Board. Assessment There are no selection criteria. If the promotion satisfies the conditions stated in the call for proposals, NWO will allocate the grant.

Aspasia voorziet in toekenning van premies om het aantal vrouwelijke wetenschappers op het niveau van universitair hoofddocent of hoogleraar te stimuleren. Waarvoor Hoe hoger op de carrièreladder, hoe minder vrouwen. Dat geldt zeker voor het wetenschappelijke onderwijs en onderzoek in Nederland. Het Ministerie van OCW, de VSNU en NWO besloten daar iets aan te doen. Aspasia moet ervoor zorgen dat meer vrouwelijke universitair docenten doorstromen naar het niveau van uhd of hoogleraar. Het financieringsinstrument is bedoeld voor het bevorderen van vrouwelijke Vidi-kandidaten tot uhd en vrouwelijke Vici-kandidaten tot hoogleraar. Voor wie Aspasia is verbonden aan de Vidi- en Vici-competitie. In aanmerking komen: vrouwelijke aanvragers van wie de Vidi- of Vici-aanvraag gehonoreerd is; vrouwelijke aanvragers die na de interviewselectie als zeer goed of excellent zijn beoordeeld maar die geen Vidi of Vici hebben gekregen: Colleges van Bestuur die deze kandidaten binnen een jaar na de besluitdatum van de Vidi- of Vici-ronde bevorderen tot respectievelijk uhd of hoogleraar, komen in aanmerking voor een premie (onder voorwaarden). Wat aanvragen Voor de aanvragers die gehonoreerd zijn bij de Vidi- en Vici-competitie is de premie 100.000 euro. Voor aanvragers die niet zijn gehonoreerd, is de premie 200.000 euro. De laatste groep ontvangt dus geen financiering uit de Vernieuwingsimpuls maar wel een hogere Aspasia-premie. Wanneer Na de toekenning van financiering in het kader van Vidi en Vici neemt NWO contact op met de kandidaten die voor een Aspasia-premie in aanmerking komen. Kandidaten die al respectievelijk uhd of hoogleraar zijn worden niet benaderd. Als de kandidaat daarmee instemt, draagt NWO haar voor bevordering voor bij haar College van Bestuur. Beoordeling Er zijn geen selectiecriteria. Als de bevordering voldoet aan de voorwaarden die in call for proposals zijn genoemd, kent NWO de premie toe.
