Marina Cacace, social researcher, has a primary research interest in the persistence of gender inequality phenomena in contemporary societies. In this perspective, she also focused on the evolution of the feminist movement, post-colonial feminist studies and the relationship between feminism and younger generations. Besides gender, her research interests include the analysis and measurement of poverty and social exclusion, the analysis of normative frameworks and social factors affecting the development of civil society organisations, the setting up of quality standard systems for adult education. In addition to research activities in the strict sense, she has frequently designed and implemented monitoring, technical assistance and evaluation schemes for different kinds of projects and training activities. She carried out research on behalf of various organisations. Among them, the European Commission (Directorate General for Employment and Directorate General for Research), the Inter-American Development Bank, organisms of the United Nations system (UNDESA, UNV, UNCHS), the Glocal Forum, the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID).
As for gender and science-related projects, she has participated in many H2020 and FP7 projects as leader or member of the team of ASDO, a social research organisation specialized on gender studies. Among these: Leading Innovative measures to reach gender Balance in Research Activities (LIBRA); Transforming Institutions by Gendering Contents and Gaining Equality in Research (TRIGGER); Structural Transformation to Achieve Gender Equality in Science (STAGES); Women's careers hitting the target: gender management in scientific and technological research (WHIST); Practising Gender Equality in Science (PRAGES).
