Jenni Dyer

“We believe that GenPORT is a great way to create a strong community of practice in this area, sharing contacts and resources and adding value to the work that we all do.”

Jenni Dyer is Head of Diversity at the Institute of Physics where she leads the Institute’s Diversity & Inclusion Strategy and business plan covering staff, members, and all other stakeholders in the physics community. She delivers research and projects on many issues of diversity within the physics and the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) agenda, including a highly credible award scheme on gender equality for physics organisations (Project Juno). She is a member of the Science Council Diversity Strategy Group and helped establish the Science, Technology, Engineering, Maths and Medicine Disability Advisory Committee, bringing together a number of learned societies to contribute to and influence the policy development on STEMM disability issues.

Prior to working at the Institute, Jenni was Policy Director at Skill: National Bureau for students with disabilities where she was responsible for leading and developing policy and project work across all of Skill’s higher education, skills and employment agendas for disabled people. As part of this she established and managed the Skill Wales Branch, securing start-up funding from the Big Lottery Fund and the Welsh Assembly Government.

Jenni is currently a Trustee for PTA-UK, a charity representing parents’ voices in their children’s education and supporting school PTAs. She is also heavily involved in the education side of the campaign group Let Toys Be Toys, campaigning against gender stereotyping and marketing of children’s toys.
