This report contains a quantitative analysis of scientific awards by gender. This identifies the discriminatory mechanisms and make recommendations for the management to increase the visibility of women’s scientific work.
The presentation of an initiative report by the Women and Science Unit of the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness and by the Association of Women Researchers and Technologists (AMIT) - has gathered more than 50 representatives of ministries, public research organizations, universities ( equality units, university institutes, centers and women's studies, feminist and gender) and associations.
The report provides a series of recommendations to the agents involved in the promotion, dissemination and organization of scientific awards in Spain, including, among others: the maintenance and publication of statistics disaggregated by sex on juries and aspiring awards; greater publicity and transparency about the mechanisms of composition of juries and evaluation criteria; progressive incorporation of scientists, researchers and technologists jurors to achieve a balanced gender composition; review of language, or use the names of women scientists for naming new awards.
