Sophia Huyer, PhD

Dr Sophia Huyer is Director of Women in Global Science and Technology (WISAT) as well as Gender and Social Inclusion Research Leader of the CGIAR Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security Programme (CCAFS). She has been a leader in research and policy analysis on global gender equality issues relating to science, technology and innovation for over 20 years. She was with the Gender Advisory Board of the UN Commission on Science and Technology for Development (GAB-CSTD) until 2014, as well as Senior Advisor to the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD) from 2009-2013. She is co-leader of the WISAT National Assessments in Gender and STI with Nancy Hafkin.  Major publications include the chapter “Is the gender gap narrowing in science and engineering?” in the UNESCO Global Science Report 2015; the UNCTAD report Applying a Gender Lens to Science, Technology and Innovation, and the 2007 UNESCO International Report on Science, Technology and Gender. More recently she served as Guest Editor of the Gender, Technology and Development issue on Gender, Climate Change and Agriculture, and authored “Gender in International Climate Policy: An analysis of progress at COP21”, published by CCAFS. Sophia held a Fulbright Fellowship at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in 2000. She received her Ph.D. from York University in Toronto.
