About you (please use English)
Hulya Caglayan gained her undergraduate degree in Philosophy at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey in 2009. During her undergraduate studies, she attended International Summer School by European College of Liberal Arts (ECLA) in Berlin, Germany in 2007. She then completed her Masters in Cultural Studies at Sabancı University in Istanbul, in 2011. For her MA thesis, she carried out an ethnographic fieldwork for six months in one of the suburbs of Istanbul. Her work examined the effects of intersecting dynamics of class, gender and ethnicity for women workers living in the area. She received an honorable mention at “Dicle Kogacioglu Article Award 2011” for her article based on her MA thesis. She also worked as a teaching assistant at Sabancı University between September 2009 and June 2012.

Since August 2012, Hulya Caglayan has been working at Istanbul Technical University as a researcher for the project titled "Female Empowerment in Science and Technology Academia" (FESTA) funded by EC under FP7 capacities. During the FESTA project, she conducted extensive field work on the gendered conditions of academia in Turkey, together with being engaged in the organization of various conferences, implementation of trainings and workshops, as well as having an active role in the publication of several FESTA expert reports. Since her involvement in FESTA project, Hulya Caglayan took part in various other projects addressing the topic of women’s empowerment in academia on national and international levels. She was involved in SHEMERA (She Euromeditarrenean Research Area) project, funded by EC under FP7 capacities and in Network of Female Academicians in SET (NETFA), which was held in Turkey. Besides her contribution as a researcher and an author to articles and expert reports in FESTA project; she also co-edited the book, “Women’s Participation in Turkish Higher Education”, with Prof. Gulsun Saglamer and Prof. Mine Tan, as an outcome of the NETFA project.

Hulya Caglayan was appointed as the General Secretary of EWORA, European Women Rectors Association, which was founded in December 2015 and based in Brussels and is currently holding this position.
