Women and men in science, engineering and technology: the UK statistics guide 2010

About (original language)

This guide provides data on several indicators of women's and men's participation in science, engineering and technology (SET) in the UK.  Indicators cover: education, employment, pay, leadership, and public engagement.

The guide shows a clear under-representation of women in all these areas in the UK.  It illustrates the continuing 'leaky pipeline', where women in SET education and employment leave their careers and struggle to return.  The guide also illuminates the intersection between gender and other dimensions of disadvantage, particularly ethnicity and disability.

The UKRC, which published the guide, ceased to exist in 2011, and its remit is now held mainly by Women in Science and Engineering (WISE).
