I am Professor of Economics at the GCU and Director of the WiSE Centre for Economic Justice. Previously, I was Head of the School of Social Justice and Director of the Equality Studies Centre in University College Dublin. My main areas of research are equality, care, poverty, gender and intrahousehold distribution. I have extensive research and policy experience, both nationally and internationally having worked as an Economic Advisor to the Department of the Taoiseach (Irish Prime Minister): Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI): Visiting Professor at the World Bank, Senshu University, Tokyo, University of Massachusetts, Amherst, Marie Curie Senior Fellow at the University of Warwick and at Kyoto University, Japan. I am currently the National Expert (Ireland) on the EC DG Reform Gender Minstreaming Flagship project 2022-2024 and was was the National Expert on the EU Commission’s Network of Experts in the Field of Socio-Economic Discrimination; Advisor to the Scottish Government Gender Index Working Group; President Elect of IAFFE and Series Editor (with Professor Diane Elson), The Gendered Economy, Agenda: Columbia University Press. Sara is currently a resident expert with the UN Global Crisis Bureau and an international gender consultant with UN Women.
