Women in STEM: Getting in, staying in and getting on @thewisecampaign

Unionlearn and WISE invite you to a reception and networking event to discuss the gender imbalance in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines and what the trade union movement can do to re-balance the STEM workforce.

Women are seriously under-represented in STEM, making up just 13% of the total workforce. Industry loses out on talent, and women lose out on the chance of an exciting career with better pay and prospects than in more traditional female occupations. Despite achieving higher grades than boys in science and technology subjects, very few girls choose STEM careers outside of the bio-medical field, and those that do, leave the industry at a higher rate than men. 

WISE has organised this event with Unionlearn to explore the trade union role in supporting women in STEM. From encouraging girls to choose STEM careers, to ensuring workplace policies and practices do not act as a barrier to women's retention and progression. Find out how unions can encourage and support women to achieve professional status though technician registration to enhance their career prospects.
