Dr Shirin Heidari talks about how scientific research has turned a blind eye on gender blind research. She provides some fascinating examples about the harmful implications of this gender bias, shares some insights into medical research, and offers a path to change the paradigm towards unbiased research that can apply to all genders. Dr Shirin is a Senior Fellow in Residence at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. Previously, she was the CEO of Reproductive Health Matters and editor-in-chief of its journal. She is also the founding chair of the Gender Policy Committee of the European Association of Science Editors. She is a researcher, a gender-equality advocate and a human rights activist. With more than 15 years of experience in HIV and health research, policy and advocacy, Dr Heidari grew aware of some of the biases in medicine that should concern us all. A woman with a mission, Dr. Heidari is on a path to change the paradigm towards unbiased medical research and its reporitng that can apply to all genders.
